(Traverse City, Michigan) - Traverse City SCORE announced it has partnered with the Traverse Area District Library (TADL) to offer small business mentoring at the library’s main branch on Woodmere on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon beginning January 14. Appointments are not necessary and walk-ins are welcome on the second floor of the library in Study Room D.
The expanded mentoring hours are in addition to those SCORE currently offers at the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce on Wednesdays 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Thursdays 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Fridays 9 a.m. to noon. Mentoring is free and confidential and available to anyone considering starting a business as well as existing small business owners seeking guidance on how to grow their business or maximize their success.
"We are excited to team up with SCORE to provide additional support to budding entrepreneurs and established area business owners who are looking to expand," said Metta T. Lansdale, Jr. director for the Traverse Area District Library. "This partnership will add significant value to the business information resources TADL has traditionally supplied."
In addition, SCORE will also begin offering small business workshops at the library’s main branch beginning March 13. The workshops are free of charge and will be held in the library’s McGuire Community Room from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Planned topics include: Overview to Planning and Starting a New Business, Financing a New Business, Marketing, Preparing a Business Plan, Buying and Selling a Business, and Financial Statements.
“We’re pleased to partner with the Traverse Area District Library to bring additional access and convenience to small businesses. Many entrepreneurs find it difficult to take time out of their busy schedules during the week. Our expanded hours at TADL will provide the additional opportunity to meet with a SCORE mentor on Saturdays. We encourage people to stop in to see us there,” said Marshall Persky, Chairman of Traverse City SCORE.
Persky also noted that offering small business educational programs at the library is a natural fit. “TADL has an extensive business library with many valuable resources for those considering starting a business or already in business. Our workshops will simply add to those resources”, said Persky.
"The Grand Traverse region is fertile ground for new and expanding business ideas," Lansdale said. "The TADL/SCORE mentoring and teaching partnership will be a huge enhancement to the existing multiple specialized TADL online resources as well as the TADL business lending collection, so important to those researching and writing business plans for new and expanded business opportunities. We fully expect this partnership will have an additional positive impact on this already exciting local economy."
