Banned Books Week 2012
September 30 − October 6, 2012 is Banned Books Week. It's a week when the library community celebrates the Freedom to Read. Observed since 1982, the annual event reminds Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted.

The Traverse Area District Library will celebrate Banned Books Week 2012 with special displays throughout the District. This year, the Peninsula Community Library invites patrons to stop in each day during the week to exercise their rights and Defend Huck Finn.  Patrons that check out a banned book from PCL's collection October 1 - October 6 can then enter their name into a drawing to win a boxed set of The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins.  Banned books have included Harry Potter, The American Heritage Dictionary, The Grapes of Wrath, The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird and more.
