Traverse Area District Library
Virtual Tour
Welcome to the Traverse Area District Library!
We are very proud to be at this location since January 10, 1999. If you'd like to
see our construction phase feel free to browse our Construction
Site, where "Books N. Moore" will take you on a tour.
First, a little history...
In 1905, after sharing a space on Front St. with the Ladies
Library Association, the Traverse City Public Library moved to 6th
St. in - one of a few Andrew Carnegie Libraries.
This fine little Library served the community well. Longtime
Librarian Miss Alice Wait
spent a major portion of her life serving the community.
In 1965 an addition was built in a more modern venue. This
served the community far longer
than imaginable, given the growth of the
community and the current size of the library.
Parking became a BIG problem and
shelving space even BIGGER.

In 1984, the Traverse City Library parted from the city and became the Traverse
Area District Library.
Today...
As you pull up to the Library on Woodmere Ave.,
you'll notice that there is a lot more parking.

As we enter the building we are met with a beautiful lobby view.
