Board of Trustees Special Meeting

Thursday, June 24, 1999

Traverse Area District Library

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by President Welch. Present were Welch, Maxson, Senger, Pratt, Mesch, Nelson and Brown. Also present were Judson (Counsel), McGuire, Vreeland, Nowinski, Schneider and Buchanan (Staff).

Since this was a Special Meeting, there were no minutes to approve and no committee reports.

The main purpose of this meeting was to consider entering into an agreement with the Cherry Capital Cable Council for the administration of tctv2. The trustees reviewed the latest information they had received regarding this issue. Motion by Senger, supported by Mesch to enter into an agreement with the Cherry Capital Cable Council to administer tctv2; and further, to submit a copy of the proposed budget to the Council for review and approval. Motion carried with Nelson and Pratt voting no.

Following comments from Judson and R. Lewis regarding agreements necessary to implement the above motion, motion by Nelson, supported by Pratt to amend the agenda to include as item b. under New Business: Consideration of entering into an agreement with NMC for use of studio facilities. Carried.

Motion by Nelson, supported by Maxson to close the East Bay and Kingsley Branches on July 3rd for the July 4th holiday (paid); and to close Woodmere on July 4th (not paid) and July 5th (paid). Carried.

Motion by Senger, supported by Pratt to enter into an agreement with NMC for use of studio facilities for tctv2, subject to approval as to content by the Director and as to form by Counsel. Carried.

The meeting was opened for public comment. The following people addressed the Board: R. Lewis, regarding traffic concerns in the vicinity of the Woodmere Library; M. Kroes and T. Shea, thanking the Board for taking on tctv2 and for all of their hard work on this issue.

Senger congratulated Judson on receiving the Lyle DeYoung Award from the Downtown Traverse City Association.

There was no further public comment. The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
