Board of Trustees Public Hearing and Special Meeting

Thursday, September 27, 2001

Traverse Area District Library

(minutes are unofficial until approved by the Board of Trustees)

            A Public Hearing on the proposed 2002 Library Budget was called to order at 5:35 p.m. by President Brown.  Present were Brown, Lawrence, Maxson, Mesch and Quick.  Schermerhorn and Welch were absent.  Also present were Judson (Counsel), McGuire, Schneider and Buchanan (Staff).

 

            Schneider presented the most current version of the proposed budget and answered questions on specific items from Board members.  Brown then invited public comment.  The following people addressed the Board:  J. Gray, Fife Lake Public Library, expressed concern at the small increase in FLPL’s allotment as compared to the other member libraries; R. French asked questions about specific budget items.

 

            There was no further public comment.  The Public Hearing was adjourned and the Special Meeting called to order by Brown at 5:45 p.m.  All those present at the Public Hearing were also present at the Special Meeting.

 

            Motion by Mesch, supported by Lawrence to adopt the 2002 Budget resolution and to set the operational millage rate at 1.000 mills and to set the debt retirement millage rate at .250 mills.  Carried.

 

            Julie Gray, FLPL, explained why FLPL wanted to use part of the $5600 grant they were previously awarded for a feasibility study rather than the original purpose, which was to pay for staff time for grant writing.  Motion by Lawrence, supported by Maxson to authorize a change in use of the grant to the Fife Lake Public Library as requested by that Library.  Carried.

 

            The meeting was opened for public comment.  R. French complimented the Board on the Library building and the outstanding service he has received from Library employees. 

 

            There was no further public comment.  The meeting was adjourned at 6:02 p.m.
