Board of Trustees Special Meeting

Thursday, March 7, 2002

Traverse Area District Library

(minutes are unofficial until approved by the Board of Trustees)


 

The special meeting was called to order at 5:42 by President Doug Brown.  Present were Doug Brown, John Welch, Bob Schermerhorn, Shirley Mesch, Al Quick, Dave Maxson, and Maryln Lawrence. Mike McGuire, Library Director, attended from 5:30-5:40; Charles Judson, attorney, attended from 6:30-7:00.

 

The purpose of the meeting was to review and conduct an evaluation of the library director by the Library Board. The Library Director requested that the evaluation be conducted in a closed session. A motion to go into the closed session, at the request of the director, pursuant to Section 8(a) of the Open Meetings Act, was made by John Welch and supported by Bob Schermerhorn. The results of the roll call vote are as follows:
          Brown - Yes                                        Maxson - Yes
          Welch - Yes                                     Quick - Yes
          Mesch - Yes                                    Lawrence - Yes
          Schermerhorn - Yes
Motion carried.  The meeting was recessed at 5:45 p.m., to be reconvened in closed session.

The open session was reconvened at 8:40 p.m.  The second item on the agenda, discussion of negotiations with Teamsters Local 214, was postponed until the next regular meeting. Mesch reported that continued discussion of the contract negotiations will be held on Tuesday, March 12, with the Personnel Committee and the Library Director. The Personnel Committee will report to the Board at the March 14 regular Library Board meeting.

            The meeting was opened for public comment.  There was none.  Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
