The NEW library on Woodmere is about the size of 2 football fields stacked on top of each other. That means that your reference librarian may have to run 50 yards, or so, to "touchdown" your book request. WOW!

There is 70,000 sq. feet of roofing. The metal shingles on the roof are 2 times the size of a normal asphalt house shingle.

There is 30,000 ft. of computer cabling.

Wil Case, local jeweler and artist, has designed a large mobile sculpture to be hung in the Library.  It is made of metal, is 28 ft. long, 5 ft. high and weighs a whopping 200 lbs.!

The clock faces on the top of the Library are about 6ft. in diameter - taller than the average man.

Over 8000 lbs. of fireproofing spray went into the building.

The yellowish columns on the outside of the second floor are 8 ft. tall.

The NEW Library has 61 phone outlets, 11 video outlets, and 245 data outlets. WOW..."let me outta" here!

The meeting room can hold up to 125 persons in a theatre-style seating arrangement.

In the Public Computing Center, the desk is 27 foot long and seats 14. There are 5 additional spaces along the wall.

On opening day we had 6000 people visit the library...and 3040 items were checked out.   A BIG day at the Carnegie Building was 1800.

The first week open, we loaned out 15% of the collection.  In 3 weeks it all comes back. Yikes!

Like statistics?  Here's just a few...Approximately 27% of our books from the adult collection are checked out to patrons.  70% for cassette books (no wonder the shelves are so bare, eh?); 61% for children's books; 45 % of the compact disc collection 53% puppets ... and the list goes on...
