Hold on to your hats ! - Books N. Moore

Right behind the drywall is a stack of bricks attached to a
long arm, which is attached to a big machine that drove right inside the
library...that's how big the main lobby area is.
Part of the boiler.

Part of hot water system.

Part of the circuit system on heating and cooling units.

Part of the main electrical box.
...Stop by for a little drink of water...

Downstairs
It's Stephen Biesty's Cross-sections!

Approaching the clock tower.
On your left, you'll see a cubicle sort of thing...that's a "viewing station"
located in the Sight & Sound Department...so if you
need to see if a video will work for your school assignment, you can check it first.
On your right, there is a "listening
bar" for you to see if a piece of music is what you need or the music genre you were
looking for.
Speaking of Sight & Sound ...
...this is the view coming into
the department. The thing hanging down in the center of the picture will have 3
televisions installed for various programming (featured VHS tape, weather station,
etc.). Like this:
and underneath in the tall cubbyholes is a
space for a computerized Public Access Catalog for looking up items in the Library. This
view is looking out Sight & Sound from the listening/viewing areas. Hey, more
TV's.
(same view a few weeks
later...a little drywall...a little of this, a little of that)
.
The
Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped shelves
are compact shelves that are on rollers, allowing more storage space and staff can go
"between the shelves" simply by rolling it to one side or the other. This is the
flooring and tracks for the shelves.
The Adult
Services Department is coming along very well
The administration offices are on the
second floor.

Cabinets in the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped

Whew! - cabinets, cabinets, cabinets -
But don't they look nice when they are done? These are located in the
circulation workroom.

This is the local history (Michigan) section. It has it's own special room....and of
the wall shelving.

Public Computing Center

The internal computer room, that houses all of the inner electronic workings.

Don't forget to look at the work that goes over your head.
Every place you see these wood covered pillars,
will be covered with brick, just like outside the building.
This drop down section is over top of the circulation desk area,
with lots of overhead lighting set in the overdrop. Area behind the circulation desk
The curved structure toward the ceiling is in the Children's Department. It flows all the way down to the
Story Room used for Story Hours.
While we're in here, isn't that view great from the reading and study
areas?
~ The entry to the storyroom ... The exit from the storyroom to the outside story area ~
The Children's Story Room will have a HUGE screen
to show movies or filmstrips.
Hmmm. . . . . . . . . . . . . Well, it's not all pretty, but it's
interesting.

WELCOME to the Library !!!!!!
Each time I go to the site, the front entrance is getting more
impressive!!
Compare that to
our current front entrance, what a difference!! About 5 or 6 times bigger!!! Incredible!!

This is a mess...can you do something with it guys?
Director, Mike McGuire, does an early
morning check-out at the mock circulation desk.
The Children's area is coming right along, notice the nice round pillars and
dry-walled curve.
The adult reference and administration
office walls are taking shape.
. . . Some artistic window views.
Mudding the entry ceiling isn't a job that's "over this guys head" -
or, well, it sort of is in a literal sense.
Whether you're looking from the inside or the outside, this building is
beautiful!!
*
What a great addition to the Grand Traverse Area! Thank you to the public for
making this dream a reality.
