This metal mobile sculpture called "Secrets of the Pond" was
given to the Library by Will Case, local jeweler and artist.
It is currently hanging in Horizons Bookstore in Downtown Traverse City.
It is about 28 ft. long and 5 foot tall, weighing in at about 200 lbs.!
In an article in the Traverse City Record Eagle, on February 27, 1998,
Will stated that he was not interested in explaining what the mobile means. If asked
he tells the story of imagining you are in a frog in a pond gazing up through the lily
pads at the Aurora Borealis. Well, like any great artist, Will obviously wants you
to create your own experience with the mobile. It's what art is about. *
And now...in the Library!

A common sight, to see "Hier Director" touring and pointing for months.

And people ooh-ing and ahh-ing.
- Staff lounge kitchen tile. -

Tiling the front entrance. The tile goes on either side of a "Walk-Off" matting
(where the dirt falls off the shoes).
A bright idea.
There are many types of lighting in a library.

There will be an art deco glass in the framing between the children's
area and the stairwell popular materials section.
Rolling out the carpet (it's just not red - it's a blue with greens and
coppers).
Carpeting in the

Children's area & Sight & Sound
We have fixtures...it won't be long 'til we can use them! : )
A functional wall separates the Young Adult section and the Sight &
Sound sections.

The furniture company, KIMBALL International (who makes Kimball pianos), HAS ARRIVED
with the furniture.

There are so many boxes of furnishings at the new library to unpack, it's incredible!
Once they are unpacked they have to be put into their proper place.
Like this.
Traverse Area District Library is environmentally conscious.
These wastebaskets have recycling built
in.

This is how we move the materials around the library...on standard library book trucks and
these custom made audio-visual material carts.
There are countless special features to see.
Curved door handle that accommodates many heights going into the
Children's Story Room.
The shelving built right into the bottom of
the staircase.
And just around the corner you can have coffee under the stairs.
One of several display cases on the main
floor.
"Can we help you?"...This is the Adult Services Reference desk.
The FRIENDS of TADL have an office located on the second floor.

children's office cubes.

The Public Computing Center desk has a tackable surface of the divider for messages and
instructions.

This is starting to look "Martha Stewart-like"...or a scene out of Better Homes
and Gardens.
