...IT'S TIME TO MOVE...
A sad farewell was made
at the old building on 6th St. on Dec. 19, 1998. Patrons and employees were
serenaded out by the sound of bagpipes - and there was a mysterious echo left within.
+ + + + + + +
It's a new day and it's Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, and it was cold and stormy. But the troops hung in.
**
**
Never fear, the movers are here. And they're not going home 'til the job is done
(except for Santa's arrival of course!).
Well, packing was REMARKABLY FAST!
Roll the carts and dollies in and load 'em up troops...
Books were loaded in sequence on these carts and hand-packed boxes were rolled on
dollies.
It was book cart after book cart after
book cart. Sigh!

Box after box after box!
The Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is moved first because they need to be operational on Tuesday Dec. 22, 1998.

Carol and Evie remain very cool throughout this whole mess.
Adult Reference is packed in no time. Boy, it sure is weird. Just thinking
about all the history that went on in this room - it's an odd mixture of happy memories,
sad memories, funny memories, and all the memories of the people who were there before us.
Sigh.

Adult Reference is moved second because it's the largest collection. Just a side note ~
while the books were being packed, many of the staff were over at the new building trying
to keep ahead of the movers in the big "Shelf Shift" project. The shelves
were not at the right height at set-up.
+ + +
Staff, meanwhile, loaded up desk materials and other small items into
boxes marked with a room number taken from the architects plans so that the movers would
place them
in the appropriate room for unpacking.
The stairwell is crammed with folded boxes
ready to fill -
Circulation is boxing up it's business

The Children's department was the main thourough fair for the movement of books and boxes.
Store rooms get packed.
Offices get packed.

The staff lounge gets packed last.
We couldn't do without the survival room
to revive us with treats and beverages.

It's a LOT of work ~ BUT ~ The staff is having a great time!
Down in the basement, in Sight & Sound, Aaron & Clyde are relieving stress by
crushing some well worn, cardboard filing boxes they would have liked to crush YEARS ago.
---------------------------------- AT WOODMERE -----------------------------------
These are the compact shelves that are
used to house all
the talking cassette books in the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
You can move a whole row with one finger!
It was the middle of winter, so the carpets were laid with board to protect this grand new facility!

The moving trucks were brought right to the front door and unloaded.
The
"New Books" section is stocked with shiny new books
for our shiny new library.
: )
The Young Adults of our community now have their own room.
There is a graffiti board with magnetic words for
composing.
There are some very creative young adults that visit the library!

The Reference Department Service Desk is ready for questions.
*
*
The shelves were now aching for books to befriends them. Row upon row - they are so
beautiful!
And the space we have, wow! ~ so much room to breath!

The adult reference department gets all set up...and can you believe it? The staff is
actually in alphabetical order in this workroom? No other place but a library, eh?
(actually it was an accident, but it took a librarian to cue in to that fact)
~*~
The administrative suite has 6 stations. The big wooden desk with the nice chair is
the director's place. All the staff got to sit in the "Big Chair" as he
settled in.
*
The children's books were loaded in and the tables and chairs were all ready for little
people.
Our young visitors got to sit in a
big lap. . . . . and . . . . . . . . .
our first storytime in our new story room
*
*
I could just sit here all day.......dreaming and learning.

Isn't this what TADL is all about?
