SUMMARY
The person in this position supports the successful implementation of all library systems including networks, servers, desktops, telecommunications, circulation, cataloging and physical plant controls.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This person works under the general supervision of the Library Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervision is exercised over the technology staff responsible for the electronic services of the library and technical services staff responsible for ordering, receiving, cataloging and processing library materials This is an exempt position and outside the general employee bargaining unit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties. (These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.)

1.  Coordinates the implementation of all automated library systems.
2.  Conducts staff training.
3.  Provides assistance to various supervisors and managers as required.
4.  Responsible for the integrity and security of all electronic systems.
5.  Maintains documentation for all software run on the facility's hardware.
6.  Evaluates employees, systems, and equipment within the department.
7.  Prepares a wide variety of automated data processing related evaluation reports and requested by the Director.
8.  Responsible for the selection and purchase of servers, personal computers, hardware, software and peripheral equipment.
9.  Manages, trains, and supervises subordinate staff.
10. Plans for software and hardware upgrades including future needs and acquisition of new technologies.
11. Serves as the main contact for Universal Service Funding.
12. Oversees library website maintenance.
13. Occasionally serves as administrator in charge with coverage on weekends and evenings.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with commensurate library experience or Master's Degree in Library Science with commensurate experience in automated systems; and, two year's supervisory/management experience.
A working knowledge of current library technologies, software applications (especially MS Office), information databases, Internet connectivity, intranet, operating systems (Novell, Linux, Windows), and network monitoring and management.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal communicatons to complete duties, 2, 3, 5-7 and 9.
