The Kingsley Branch of the Traverse Area District Library has enjoyed huge success in its Summer Reading Club programs for a number of years.  In 2010 alone, we had 522 readers!  Registration typically begins in late May or early June, with the first week of reading beginning when school is out.

We offer three different reading programs catering to different ages as follows:

1.  Kids SRC – appropriate for ages preschool through 4^th grade

• This group will make a daily reading goal (minimum of 15 minutes).  They will track their reading on a chart specifically geared for them.  At the end of each week, they can bring their chart to show a library staff member, who will reward them with a weekly prize for meeting their goal.
• On Thursday mornings at 11:00, there is an entertaining event which all readers and their families are welcome to attend.  Check the website calendar for weekly information.
• Registration at the library is required; children will pick up their informational materials when they register.  A reading week goes from Sunday through Saturday.

2.  Young Adult SRC – appropriate for 5^th grade and older

• 100 pages per week is the goal for this group.  They are also given weekly puzzle or fun sheets to do, and occasionally an extra-credit assignment for a quick prize.
• A weekly prize drawing is held with the number of chances determined by meeting reading goals and completing the sheets included in their packets.
• A final celebration at the end of this club includes great additional prizes, and some kind of eating activity – cookout, ice cream social, etc.
• Registration at the library is required; packets will be given to each participant with reading logs, instructions, and other materials.

3.  Adult SRC – appropriate for all adults

• There are no reading minimums or maximums.
• Read books - then fill out an entry per book for a weekly prize drawing.
• Wait for the phone to ring to say you are a winner.
• Registration required, but you can do so by phone - no need to stop in.

In the summer, this is the place to be when you’re not hanging out at the beach.
