We maintain an up-to-date, non-circulating legal reference collection which includes:

• Legal periodicals
• Legal dictionaries and encyclopedias
• Restatements of the law
• Maritime cases
• Nolo Press self-help books on a variety of legal topics
• Michigan divorce law books
• Legal research guides
• Two public computers with internet access
• Access to Michigan materials on Westlaw®

Reference assistance can be provided with:

• finding materials on a specific law-related subject
• using legal research materials
• reading citations to find specific statutes, case law, and other legal references
• locating other agencies available to help with questions about the law

Please note the staff makes every effort to help patrons use the County Law Library's collection, however, by law (MCL 600.916 Unauthorized practice of law), the staff can:

• NOT give legal advice or state opinions on legal issues.
• NOT interpret the law, regulations, court cases, or any other legal materials
• NOT select specific forms.
• NOT choose or recommend language for use on any form or other legal document.
• NOT answer most phone inquiries about the law.

Our hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5pm. (except court holidays)

The Law Library is located on the 4th floor of the Grand Traverse County Courthouse, 328 Washington in Traverse City. (at the corner of Washington and Boardman streets.)
