Lobby view from the main entrance of welcome desk and holds shelf to the right.
The Lobby Redesign is complete. The Woodmere Library reopened on Tuesday, September 4 featuring a new welcome desk where staff can greet and provide services for patrons, an accessible holds shelf, where patrons can pick up their own materials organized by last name and first initial with spines facing inward for privacy, and four express checkout stations in the lobby, providing easy and convenient check out. TADL staff and volunteers will be available and on hand to help patrons experience the new circulation enhancements. Thank you to all patrons for your patience during the brief closure of Woodmere.

Express Checkout: How Does it Work?

Also available in Woodmere Youth Services, Sight and Sound, and the Second Floor Reference Department.

  • Step 1: Scan the barcode on your library card or driver's license under the red scan line.
  • Step 2: Stack 3 or less items at a time and wait while they check out (green check mark appears next to the item). Each item has been tagged with an RFID sticker. The RFID sticker is what the machine reads.
  • Step 3: Repeat step 2 if you have additional items to check out.
  • Step 4: Remove items and touch "yes" on the screen for a receipt showing titles and due dates or touch "no" on the screen for no receipt.

Helpful Feature: Want to see all current items you have checked out and when they are due?

  • Scan the barcode on your library card or driver's license under the red scan line.
  • Touch "Account Info" on the screen.
  • Touch "Forward" to move down the list.
  • Touch "Print" for a complete print out of all items checked out and due dates.

Accessible Holds Shelf

The holds shelf is now accessible to patrons. It is organized by last name and first initials, with the spines facing inward for privacy. Remember, you may only borrow holds using the card or account under which the hold was placed; bring with you the card for the account that is holding the item.

Concerned about your privacy?  You may assign an alias to your account by logging into your online TADL account. [To access your online username and password, visit any TADL location service desk.] Once logged in, select  "Account Preference" then under "Holds Shelf Alias" select "change", enter your online password and then your selected alias.  If you choose to call yourself "Batman" your holds will be waiting for you under that name.  [Sorry, Batman is already taken.] And make sure you remember your alias when picking up holds.

The lobby redesign is a part of the library's district-wide 2012 service upgrades. The upgrades include an enhanced online catalog, RFID tagging and, in the coming months, MeLCat. With more than 1.2 million lending transactions in the last year, the upgrades to the catalog and circulation systems are exciting and critical to control cost and continually improve the high quality of services the community has come to expect.
