Making Life More Livable: Simple adaptations for the homes of the blind and visually impaired older people - Irving Dickman
This practical handbook is full of ideas and suggestions for making any home safer, but particularly the homes of elderly, or blind family members. The author discusses different types of vision impairments so clearly that it is much easier to imagine what the person losing or has lost sight is feeling as well as just how that person perceives the world visually. Dickman then goes on making suggestions using contrast, textures and temperature to make it easier to cook, use the tub, play games, sew, shop and all tasks and enjoyments in everyday life.

You and Your Hearing Impaired Child: A Self-instructional Guide for Parents - John W. Adams
Although this library book is a workbook and should be used by parents of hearing-impaired children as an exercise book, people can gain much from it and purchase a copy if they must write on each exercise page. The insights and practical help recognizing feelings as a parent and methods to help a hearing impaired child grow are very valuable. This book explains the ways these children differ and communication ideas that bring out the best in the child. It also tells how frustrated both parent and child become through the early years as well as some of the things that trigger frustration and practical ways to deal with them.
