Kurt Vile’s music feels like it was hashed out over thousands of afternoons, spent in deep meditative song craftsmanship to distill its lo-fi essence. It has the effortless feel of a breezy day spent with close friends doing very little and enjoying every moment. The most strikingly similar connection is with J Mascis and Dinosaur Jr., although this is more of a minor chord affair, it has fewer power pop hooks and more of a magnificent mumbled wisdom. Mr. Vile’s music has challenging and diverse melodic emotional structure. His deeply effective DIY spirit shines bright like rusted chrome on a hand built muscle car.
