Pale is a highly engaging dystopian story. In this not so distant future, there is a drug called the Lazarus Serum that can bring you back to life. Problem is, it only works on one blood type. Another problem is, it changes your appearance so that everyone can instantly tell that you were brought back to life. You become a Pale.
What happens when only a portion of the population has a chance at eternal life? Discrimination and institutionalized disenfranchisement.
Jed’s father specializes in taking the property of pales and passing it onto their descendants. Jed’s best friend specializes in beating up pales. Jed has no intention of ever becoming a pale, he’d rather be dead. When he is hit by a car saving his girlfriend she makes the decision for him and he is given the Lazarus Serum.
This highly readable and very accessible book kept me turning pages.
