Only In Dreams
By Dum Dum Girls
Reviewed by wasimescu on Sunday, February 19, 2012

Dum Dum Girls is a band from California who make catchy four chord guitar pop songs.  Their first album sounded like it was recorded in a tin can with a toy drum kit and a 15-watt amp, but on their second album they've stepped up to a much fuller, cleaner sound (although still reverb-heavy).

Scott 4
By Scott Walker
Reviewed by wasimescu on Wednesday, December 21, 2011

Few musicians have had as varied a career as Scott Walker.  Born Noel Scott Engel, he achieved pop success in the mid-sixties as part of the Walker Brothers and even landed his own television show before releasing a string of increasingly difficult solo albums.  Originally released in 196

Black Up
By Shabazz Palaces
Reviewed by wasimescu on Thursday, October 27, 2011

Shabazz Palaces are a semi-secretive hip-hop duo comprising Ishmael Butler (of old-school rap group Digable Planets) and producer/instrumentalist Tendai Maraire.  The songs on Black Up mostly avoid traditional verse-chorus structure, opting instead to let the music develop into unexpecte

Native Speaker

Native Speaker is the stellar debut LP from Canadian four-piece BRAIDS, whose experimental shoe-gazey post-rock/electro-folk sound is most easily compared to hep cat favorites Animal Collective.

Phosphene Dream
By The Black Angels
Reviewed by aolson on Tuesday, September 27, 2011

What's not to love about the Black Angels. They meld the some of best elements of the Velvet Underground and the 13th Floor Elevators into a completely contemporary sound. The music is dark, menacing and sometimes playful psychedelic Rock and Roll! The whole piece sounds authentic and natural.

The French Connection
By Zora Young
Reviewed by joswald on Saturday, February 12, 2011

I love this album!  Zora Young's classy, sassy soul drenched voice is exceptional.  She received the Chicago Female Blues Artist award 2007, 2008, 2009.  The album contains only one of her own songs, Toxic.  Other pieces include classic pop, country and gospel.  Two of my favorites are:  Just a Closer Walk with Thee, and Dylan's Tonight I'll B

Album
By The Girls
Reviewed by aolson on Tuesday, October 19, 2010

This music sounds like the surroundings it was recorded in; summertime San Fransisco. Frontman Christopher Owens has had quite a ride collecting all the life experiences to make this album ring true. His parents were in a cult throughout his child hood, lets just say it did not end well. Living on the streets in Austin Texas, gave him the scrappy DIY spirit.

This sound recording is full of energy and lots of upbeat tunes.  I truly enjoyed it.  This artist is very talented and even sings in Spanish.  He has a great voice.  Awesome songs to listen to in the car.
