Acceptable Use Policy

Also, for patrons using their own laptop, the following additional terms
apply:
- Patrons under the age of eighteen must use their laptop within the Public
Computing Center on the second floor of the library.
- Wireless networking technologies are susceptible to eavesdropping. Patrons
are encouraged to use encryption to enhance their privacy when transmitting
personally identifiable information over any wireless network.
TADL Internet Acceptable Use Policy
What you need to know:
- 1. The Library supports the Library Bill of Rights regarding Internet
access.
- The Library respects user privacy when using the Internet. However,
security is technically difficult to achieve. The Library is not responsible
for electronic communication becoming public nor for the accuracy of the
information on the Internet.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for their children's access to the
Internet. As is the case with all other material in the library, the
parents/guardians are held in the highest regard and are respected as the
best selectors for their children's library use.
- The Internet is independent of the policies which guide the development of
the library's collection.
- Material which may be offensive to some users may be found on the
Internet. If a site is being accessed which can reasonably be construed as
offensive to others, the user may be asked to change sites.
- Use of the Internet may be denied to those users who violate this
Acceptable Use Agreement or any policy governing the behavior of library
patrons.
What the library will do:
- The Library will offer computers in the Youth Services Department with
access only to pre-selected web sites.
- The Library will equip monitors in the Public Computing Center with
privacy screens.
- The Public Computing Center will be staffed during all hours of operation
with trained employees.
- Staff will monitor computer use by patrons, especially use by unescorted
minor children, for compliance with federal and state law.
- The Library will educate parents and children about their obligations and
responsibilities pertaining to use of the Internet.
What we ask you to do:
- Users will honor a time limit of one (1) consecutive hour.
- You must scan your diskette for viruses before using it in the Public
Computing Center.
- Users are required to consent to the Acceptable Use Agreement prior to use
of the Internet by pressing the "Enter" key on their keyboard.
What we ask you not to do:
- Please do not violate the terms of any copyright or software licenses.
- Please do not attempt to violate system security.
- Please do not use your own software. Diskettes are available for purchase
in the Public Computing Center.
- Please do not use the workstation to harass others.
- Please do not attempt to use the Internet for any purpose which would be
in violation of the any law. You use of the Internet constitutes agreement
to reimburse the library for any cost or expense it may incur as a result of
your illegal use or attempted illegal use including violation of any
copyright laws or breach of any license agreement.
