Board Games Now Available for Checkout at the Traverse Area District Library
January 23, 2020 (Traverse City, MI) – Traverse Area District Library (TADL) now offers over 50 tabletop and board games at the Main Library for Patron Cardholders to checkout and enjoy at home. Just like traditional library materials such as books and movies, board games provide experiences which engage imaginations, spur critical thought, and develop problem-solving skills.
The tabletop games are the most recent addition to TADL’s Library of Things, a collection of non-traditional library items you might be surprised to discover that you can borrow from your library.
Teen Services Assistant, Colleen Hatch, led the development of this collection. The idea started out with creating an in-house collection of games for teens to play at the library.
“We started out adding one new game each month to our in-house collection and started to see them played casually in the library more frequently,” said Hatch. “The kind of interaction you get through board games is essential for developing social skills, cooperation, and critical thinking. I hope everyone has some fun and maybe learn something along the way.”
The new tabletop games are located in the atrium of the Main Library, under the central staircase, in the former gift shop. Each game checks out for two weeks and may be renewed up to four times unless there is a Hold.
