We’re excited to announce that a new local library history book is available! Beyond Books: Stories of Traverse Area Library History 1860 – 2020, written and researched by noted local author Heather Shumaker, tells our story. Starting with the very early Traverse Township Library and the 1869 formation of the Ladies Library Association, through the Carnegie Library on 6th Street, and up to today’s present library network this book is packed with stories and photos. Library development, at least in our area, was political, sometimes controversial, and even in some cases very dramatic.
The book launched on Sunday Feb. 20 at the Traverse Area Historical Society meeting, and copies are now on sale at the Main Library. Anne Magoun and Ann Swaney, co-coordinators of CRSTAL (Committee to Record the Story of Traverse Area Libraries), worked together in fundraising, researching, proofing, and now marketing this book.
Price: $25.95 per copy
When purchased at the Main Library, 100% of the proceeds from this book support TADL’s Local History Collection.
Active members of the Friends of the Traverse Area District Library receive a 20% discount.
