NEA Big Read

Featured Book: An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo

This program will begin October 2021 and run through April 2022 and we will feature related events throughout the months. (Calendar). Find information regarding Dennos Museum exhibits and other partner events here.

An Evening with Joy Harjo  – Monday, October 18 @ 8:00pm. This program is online only via Minnesota Center for the Book. Register here.  Join Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College and the American Indian Community Housing Organization for an evening of poetry with the United States Poet Laureate Joy Harjo.

Book Discussion – Monday, November 15 at 6:30pm (Reserve your spot)

This discussion will be offered as a dual in-person and online Zoom meeting. You may choose to attend either way, but please only register for one.

The National Endowment for the Arts Big Read is designed to broaden our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. Traverse Area District Library, along with The Dennos Museum Center and our other community partners, is one of 70+ nonprofit organizations to receive a grant to host an NEA Big Read project.

Great Michigan Read

Featured Book: The Women of the Copper Country by Mary Doria Russell

This program runs from fall 2021 through fall 2022. TADL will be offering programs throughout the year related to the themes of this book.

Book Clubs

These established book clubs each follow a regular schedule. Please see the calendar for each club’s selected monthly read.

  • Tuesdays @ 2 – Meets the last Tuesday of the month at 2 pm.
  • Queer Tales – Meets the last Sunday of the month at 4 pm.
  • Books & Brewskis – Meets the last Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm.

Other Upcoming Events

  • Preparedness Series with the American Red Cross – Videos of the series events will be archived on the library’s YouTube page.
  • Classical Music with IPR – Starting 10/10, will take place the 2nd Sunday of each month through May 2022 (Calendar).

Adult Craft Kits

New craft kits are available once a month in the fall. Pick them up in Adult Services on the second floor at the Reference Desk. Video tutorials are available on our YouTube page.
