1913 Michigan Copper Strike Program via Zoom

Join us and author Donna Searight Simons as she discusses her book, Copper Empire:  a novel about the Copper Country Labor Strike in 1913. In 1913, thousands of copper miners went out on a nine-month strike in the copper country. This labor strike tore the community in two; some people sympathized with the miners’ dangerous working conditions, while others sided with mine and business owners.  Donna will discuss the working conditions in the mines, what life was like in copper country, and how the strike led to a tragic end of 70 lives.
