A Midsummer Night’s Faery Tale by Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre

January 27 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm| Main Library (Traverse City)

The Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre will present excerpts from its upcoming production of A Midsummer Night’s Faery Tale. The ballet is based on the children’s book of the same name by Wendy Froud and Terri Windling and choreographed by Artistic Director Thomas Morrell.

The story takes place in the faery court of the Old Oak Wood on the summer solstice. All the faeries scurry about in preparation for the night’s festivities. A small tree root faery, Sneezlewort Rootmuster Rowenberry Boggs the Seventh awakens and tries to help, but only creates chaos. He discovers a scorceress disguised as one of the faery queen’s handmaidens as she tries to dethrone the queen. With the help of his friend Twig, the two set out to find and return the crown to Queen Titania.

The score for this original ballet production is a compilation of music by electric harpist Andreas Vollenweider and Joanie Madden, a virtuoso on the Irish whistle. It will truly be a memorable experience showcasing the versatility and professionalism of this talented youth ballet company.
