History of the United States Military Uniforms (Part 2)

July 13 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm| Main Library (Traverse City)

This is the perfect event for that history buff and is an all ages event.  The focus will be on clothing and  the theme, “Why uniforms were the way they were”.   This session we will learn a bit about the War of the Wilderness (Revolutionary War) and cover loyalist uniforms including Butler’s Rangers and other uniforms worn for battles in areas such as Niagara region, MI, Ohio, IL, KY, etc.   We will be able to see actual gear and possibly weapons that represent the time period of the event.

Collaborating with Frances Finch #9 Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and Northern Michigan Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution, the speaker George Scheck has been professionally creating reenactment clothing for over 30 years.  Born and raised in Traverse City, George was among an elite group of professionals selected to create clothing in the movie “The Last of the Mohicans“.  Though technically retired, George continues to create reenactment clothing for people all over the country.
