Introducing the Eighth Honorary Citizen of the United States by Joseph Conger

April 13, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm| Main Library (Traverse City)

How does one become an Honorary Citizen of the United States, and who appoints them? Joseph Conger will talk about the Honorary Citizen process and introduce the latest honoree, Bernardo Vicente de Gálvez y Madrid, Viscount of Galveston and Count of Gálvez who demonstrated bravery that forever endeared him to the United States soldiers in the American Revolutionary War. Several cities and parishes have been named after him, including Galveston, Texas. Learn about the origins of his bravery as we look back into American History on this day, the birthday of Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of the United States.

Joseph Conger is the president of the Michigan Society Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. The Northern Michigan Chapter supports the mission of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution and the Michigan State Society Sons of the American Revolution, which support historic preservation, patriotism, and education.
