Let’s Talk Sustainability via Zoom

January 12 @ 6:30 pm

Free

Let’s discuss with Michigan native Paul Rink about the current state of youth-driven climate change legal action in the United States and around the world. Paul will describe his chapter “Helping Kids Stand Up for Their Rights: The Role of Climate Change Litigation” which was included in the 2019 book, A Better Planet: 40 Big Ideas for a Sustainable Future. In addition, Paul will talk about his current work at the non-profit public interest law firm, Our Children’s Trust, where he coordinates the organization’s global legal advocacy efforts, assisting with cases in the United States, Canada, Mexico, India, and more. The event will conclude with an interactive discussion about how young and young-at-heart Michiganders can advocate for sustainability both in upcoming legal strategies initiated by Our Children’s Trust and in their daily lives.

A recording of this program is available on our YouTube channel.

Paul Rink is originally from Gaylord, MI: the top knuckle of your middle finger on the hand Michigan map, or, as his mother likes to call it, “Little Siberia.” He earned his J.D. from Yale Law School and his Masters of Environmental Management from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies in 2019. After graduating with a B.S. from the University of Michigan in 2012, Paul taught soil science and environmental science to Singaporean students at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He then worked on policy advocacy at the International Water Management Institute in Sri Lanka. Most recently, Paul researched the impact of business interests on international environmental law as a Fox Fellow in Mexico City. He has written publications ranging from the household economic benefits of rainwater harvesting systems to a comparative analysis of the forestry policies in Indonesia and Brazil. Paul is a huge cinephile who relaxes by running, reading, and writing poetry.
