Main Library Mortgage Burning Party!
June 22 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm| Main Library (Traverse City)
To celebrate paying off the mortgage for the construction of the Traverse Area District Library (TADL) Main Library in Traverse City, Gail Parsons, Director of TADL, is planning an old-fashioned mortgage burning party for Thursday, June 22 at 1:00 p.m.
Residents of the TADL district are invited to join in the festivities on the front lawn of the Main Library (610 Woodmere Avenue, Traverse City) for a special ceremonial mortgage burning to begin at 1:15 p.m., followed by light refreshments.
In 1996, voters approved a 20-year operational millage of 1.1 mills along with a facilities bond not to exceed $8.5 million. The purpose of the bond was for the construction of a new Main library, which opened to the public on January 10, 1999.
On Wednesday, May 3, the TADL Administration received a letter from US Bank confirming that the “bonds for the Traverse Area District Library were paid in full as of May 1, 2017.”
Gail Parsons, Library Director, is thankful to the community for their vision and for voter support of TADL.
“The fact that the voters deemed excellent library service important enough to approve construction of such an amazing institution speaks volumes about the value they placed on what libraries do in a community,” said Parsons, “It gave me immense satisfaction to be able to submit the final payment on TADL’s debt for the Main Library.”
