The Way of Life of the Anishinaabek: History, Culture and Traditions with JoAnne Cook via ZOOM

Join us via Zoom and learn more about the Anishinaabek in the greater Grand Traverse area. JoAnne Cook will share history, culture, tradition, as well as spiritual and world views. She will also share the societal, environmental, and legal aspects that have reshaped the Anishinaabek way of life.

From Peshawbestown, Michigan, JoAnne served on the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Tribal Council from 2012 -2016. JoAnne’s professional experience has been with Tribal Courts. She was involved in the organization of Peacemaking and Healing to Wellness Court – alternative courts utilizing tradition and culture to promote healing and restorative balance for those involved. She believes tradition and culture is vital to the Anishinabe way of life. She presents to various communities on the way of life and culture of the Odawa. She teaches a course titled Native Law and Culture.
