The other day I wrote a check with the date 2024 because that’s where my head is lately. With budgeting considerations come programming decisions and 2024 is shaping up to be a banner year. Our community will be celebrating 155 years of library services! The Ladies Library Association started in 1869. About 130 years later with the voter approved millage, the Main library on Woodmere Avenue opened on January 10, 1999. We are planning some educational displays and events associated with this 25-year anniversary. Stay tuned to future newsletters. But back to October 2023 for a moment, I hope you’ll join us as we celebrate the ribbon cutting for our new Library Learning Lawn at the Chili Cook Off on Sunday October 22nd from 1 pm - 3 pm. This summer we held over 53 events on our front lawn, thanks in large part to donations from our generous community and a Public Spaces Community Places grant from the MEDC. Stop by and check out the new garden, benches, new drinking fountain (coming soon), and sign while you taste some chili and listen to live music. It’s going to be a great event in a beautiful community space. Finally, I want to thank Carol Sullivan for her 4 years of service as a TADL Trustee. Her thoughtful guidance and astute fiscal oversight during some difficult pandemic times have helped make the library what it is today. With Carol leaving, there will be a Board opening appointed by the Grand Traverse County Commission. If you are interested, please go to the Grand Traverse County Board, Commission, and Committee Vacancies and Applications page (https://www.gtcountymi.gov/242/Board-Commission-and-Committee-Vacancies) . I look forward to seeing everyone at the Chili Cookoff! Michele
