We have a copy of the library user survey responses (https://www.tadl.org/strategic-plan) online. The draft Strategic Plan (for years 2026-2029, covering Woodmere/East Bay/Kingsley) will go the Library Board in December for approval. We will include an update in the January newsletter. Common question: Why do we not have info from all six libraries in this newsletter and on our social media? TADL is the only library system in Michigan with three branch libraries (East Bay/Kingsley/Woodmere share one Board of Trustees) and three member libraries (Fife Lake/Interlochen/Peninsula each have their own Boards of Trustees). The three branch libraries all combine their information into this newsletter, but each opts to have its own social media feed. The three member libraries each opt to maintain their own newsletters and social media feeds. If you're interested in receiving their information please visit their websites and sign up there - Fife Lake Public Library (http://tadl.org/fifelake) , Interlochen Public Library (http://interlochenpubliclibrary.org) , Peninsula Community Library (http://peninsulacommunitylibrary.org) . Thank you! New Things! If you haven't checked out our Things collection lately you could be in for a surprise. There are lots of tool choices (pick up & return via East Bay's Tool Library - link (https://www.tadl.org/tool_library) ), and lots more! tadl.org/things East Bay Branch Library (https://www.tadl.org/eastbay) Ongoing Sing & Stomp Wednesdays - 11 am (No Sing & Stomp on 11/26) Sing & Stomp Fridays - 10 am (No Sing & Stomp on 11/14 or 11/28) * 11/4 - Book Club for Kids, 4 - 5 pm * 11/4 - Adult Coloring Night, 5:30 pm - 7 pm * 11/6 - Baby Bookworms, 10:30 - 11:30 am * 11/6 - Ageless Grace, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm * 11/8 - Zendoodle Art Workshop with Barbara Greenwood, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm (register (https://www.tadl.org/event/zendoodle-art-workshop-barbara-greenwood-26219) ) * 11/11 - Picture Book Club for Adults, 5:30 - 6:30 pm * 11/15 - Cardio Drumming + 11 am (register (https://www.tadl.org/event/cardio-drumming-east-bay-i-26718) ) + Noon (register (https://www.tadl.org/event/cardio-drumming-east-bay-ii-26719) ) * 11/18 - French Language Conversation Group, 5:30 - 6:30 pm * 11/20 - Chair Yoga, 11:30 am * 11/25 - East Bay Book Club, 6 pm Kingsley Branch Library (https://www.tadl.org/kingsley) Ongoing Wigglers Storytime Tuesdays and Wednesdays - 10:30 am (No Wigglers 11/26) * 11/13 - Everyone Has a Story, 5:30 pm * 11/26 - Afternoon Book Club 2 pm From the Director’s Desk with Library Director Michele P. Howard With Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s a good time to be thankful. . Thank you to those of you who wrote letters and made call to our senators and representatives to keep library funding stable and include funding for MeL and MeLCat. I am thankful to our elected officials who listened to the State of Michigan and who passed a budget that included funds to keep MeLCat and MeL databases. I think they received the message loud and clear: Libraries are vital to our communities! Next, I’m thankful to all the 500+ people who filled out the TADL Strategic Planning survey. We received tons of great feedback and are working hard to have a plan ready to go for January 2026. Stay tuned for more information. I’m going to thank everyone who reads new books in advance for their patience. Recently, Baker and Taylor, the company that supplies over 95% of our books, closed its doors with no warning. They have been operating since 1828 and provided books to over 4,000 libraries. Their closure has resulted in about 1,700 orders for new books being canceled at our library. Thanks to our resourceful staff, they are getting creative and finding ways to re-order those items. But, you might see a bit of a wait for books, especially some new titles. All libraries are facing this problem with Baker & Taylor closure. If you have any questions please drop in and chat! I'll be in the McGuire Room Nov. 3 at 11 am for Doughnuts with the Director (https://www.tadl.org/event/doughnuts-director-26338) . A huge thank you and congratulations to the person who puts this newsletter together each month - TADL’s Marketing Manager, Heather Brady. She was awarded the Michigan Library Association’s Library Support Staff of the Year Award at the annual conference this week. Ms Brady’s work has significantly advanced the visibility and reputation of our library, strengthened the image of support staff, and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to library services in Michigan. She really makes us shine and works hard every day to help the community know what’s happening at the library. Thank you, Heather! Finally, as we head into the whirlwind of the holiday season I hope you will find time to stop in to the library. Search out a cover or title that speaks to you at that moment. Somewhere on our shelves there is a book waiting for you to discover it - whether you are seeking comfort, joy, or just a few moments of idle relaxation. Keep reading!
