Adults look forward to summer as much as kids do. Relax, take a vacation, and catch up on reading, and join your local library summer reading club!  It’s not just for kids – take this opportunity to have fun, explore new interests and (if you have children in your life) provide a good role model through reading!

What are the rules?

Summer Reading Club (aka Summer Library Challenge) runs for 6 weeks in the summer – beginning on June 20th and ending with the finale party on August 1st. The goal is for everyone to get at least 600 minutes each–about 15 minutes a day doing any fun summer activity such as: reading, going to library events, spending time with your family, volunteering in your community, making crafts with a TADL craft kit, or using anything from the Library of Things. You will earn 20 points for every 20 minutes spent doing any of those activities.

Registration opens June 1st. If you haven’t registered, click here for step by step instructions.

Once you have set up your account in Beanstack (as per the step-by-step instructions) stop in at the library to pick up your (optional) printed reader log, bookmarks, and themed t-shirt (while supplies last).

Weekly Prize Drawings

Report your minutes each week to enter into weekly drawings for a chance to win books of your choosing, because…this is for adults and we know you love books!   As a plus there will be several downtown gift certificates available as a second choice if none of the books catch your fancy.  Several winners will be chosen at random each week.

Grand Prize Drawing

If you report 600 minutes by July 31st, you will be entered into the our Grand Prize Drawing to win downtown gift certificates or a Brilliant Books Book of the Month membership.

Even More Extras!

Did you know that you can receive personalized recommendations for books from a library staff member each time you come into the library? Just visit us up on the 2nd Floor and say, “Can you recommend a good book?” We’ll ask you a few questions to make sure we know what you like to read and you’ll be on your way shortly with a stack of books! Would you rather receive those reading suggestions via email, so you can put the books on hold right away form home? Fill out this What Should I Read Next book recommendation form. We’ll reply within a couple of days with books picked just for you based on your reading preferences!

Don’t forget we have Craft Kits for Adults as well.  Stop by the Reference Desk and ask for one.  They change often and range from cat toys to Zen gardens to weaving, something for everyone!  While you are are there, check out the Seed Library at the top of the stairs–take some home,  save seeds to return to us! We will put them out next year.
