Volunteering at the Library

United Way Day of Caring project sign; volunteers under a tent during the summer

How to get started

Thank you for your interest in sharing your time and talents as a volunteer for the Traverse Area District Library!

Our need for volunteers fluctuates throughout the year, peaking in the summer months. Please note, we do not use volunteers for jobs performed by our professional staff, such as re-shelving books and materials, or leading programming such as storytimes. (If you are interested in shelving you can apply for one of our page positions.)

Do you have a community service requirement for high school? Please visit the teen volunteer page.

Volunteer applications

If you are still interested in volunteering with the Traverse Area District Library choose one of these applications to get started:

Properly completed applications are retained on file for 12 months from the date received by the Marketing and Communications Manager. We'll email you when volunteer opportunties arise that meet your designated interests.

Volunteer with our Friends group!

Volunteers are needed to help with annual used books and media sales. If you are looking for regular volunteer time this can be a great option. Proceeds from these sales are used to support TADL programs, projects and facility improvements.

To select this option please use the online application above and check the book for the Friends of TADL under your volunteer selections.

The Friends are also looking for prospective Friends Board and Committee Members (details).
