The goal of the Traverse Area Historical Society is to share local history of Traverse City and the Grand Traverse region.

This month's program title is "Bad Treaties & Broken Promises"

This presentation will describe the history of the the Indians’ struggle to retain their homelands in the face of white settlement. The talk will be based on his new book, “Raw Deal: The Indians of the Great Lakes and the Theft of Native Lands,” which is now available in bookstores.

Presenter:

Robert Downes is a prolific writer on Native American culture. His book, "Raw Deal: The Indians of the Great Lakes and the Theft of Native Lands" is his eighth book. It will follow other works including his novels of the Ojibwe, “The Wolf and The Willow” and “Windigo Moon,” which are grounded in deeply-researched history and anthropology.
