What is the role of the news media in America? How has that changed over the years? Are recent events changing your answers to either of these questions?
The news media has long been one of the most important "checks and balances" for our governmental systems and those we elect to run them. But the perception of news reporting and who delivers the content has become a divisive point of contention among Americans. Join us for a panel discussion to talk about what's happening in the news reporting world and get the point of view of our local news outlets. We've asked representatives from all types of media outlets to join us, so we should have a panel that represents the scope of news media in the Grand Traverse Area - print, television, radio, online, and even the high school newspapers.
And for those of you who remember, we'll be showing Schoolhouse Rock's "Three Ring Government" to kick off this evening's program!
This program is part of TADL’s year long Civics Celebration: Your Public Library, The Cradle of Democracy in recognition of America’s 250th.
