The LWVGTA will present a public program about the multi-county Materials Management Plans (MMP). The MMPs are required by the State and designed to guide the management of counties’ waste materials, with an emphasis on increasing recycling and composting. This program features the status of the Benzie, Leelanau and Grand Traverse multi-county and Kalkaska and Antrim County Materials Management Plans. Learn how your area plans to handle these materials, and how you can contribute to its success.
Lydia Gulow, representing the Benzie, Leelanau, Grand Traverse multi-county planning group, and Mathew Cooke, representing the Kalkaska and Antrim County planning committees, will explain the MMP requirements, the status of planning, and how the public can get involved.

Lydia Gulow is the Resource Recovery Director for Grand Traverse County and Designated Planning Agent (DPA) for the Benzie, Grand Traverse, and Leelanau County Materials Management Plan (MMP). Her background is in Resource & Development, production, & recycling operations management. Lydia grew up in NW Lower Michigan and is passionate about protecting our natural resources & contributing to a circular economy.

Mathew Cooke is a Community Planner at Networks Northwest, bringing a decade of planning and county government experience to his role. Holding a Master's in Public Administration from CMU, he provides technical assistance and support to regional and local agencies and projects across a wide range of planning areas, including land use, parks and recreation, economic development, transportation, and materials management.
