WHAT IS A REPAIR CAFE?
Got a broken toaster? A wobbly bike wheel? A moth-eaten sweater? Don’t toss it—bring it to Traverse City Repair Café and give it a second life.
HOW IT WORKS:
Bring items for repair.
Come with anything from a pair of ripped jeans to a broken plate or an old bike.
Get Paired with a Fixer.
Check-in and get matched with an expert who will help repair your item.
Repair your item.
Learn how to repair your item with the guidance of an expert and the tools needed for basic repairs.
This free community event pairs attendees with skilled volunteers to help repair household items—from small appliances and clothing to bicycles and furniture. You bring the item. We provide the tools. Our volunteers bring the know-how.
Update 6/10/2025: The Repair Cafe is a free, volunteer staffed event. Our volunteer fixers are multi-faceted and handy, our repair stations will include fabrics/clothing/texiles, wooden items, bikes, and small appliances. Please note - we can’t guarantee that our volunteers will be capable of fixing every problem with every item. We will all do our absolute best to adequately fix most items. We will not be equipped to repair phones, computers, motors or engines at the June 14th event.
For more information about these or the event in general, please visit the TADL event page and the GDFS website.
Repair Café Traverse City is a partnership between Green Door Folk School and the Traverse Area District Library. We believe in programming events that create a more sustainable and empowered community.
