Dear Readers, Let’s talk translations!

Posted on:

Summer Reading Club has come to a close. Did you record all your minutes? Were you one of our prize winners? I hope you had as much fun as we did here at the library. Together, we all read over two million minutes! The success of this summer has me feeling things about community, and with the pandemic still present, it’s got me thinking of our community globally…by which I of course mean thinking about books!

When was the last time you read a book that was a translation? Personally, reader, I could not recall the last translation I read. Surely I’ve read one right? I had to set that existential tangent down for another day because, eager as always to expand my reading horizons, I had to see if TADL had any…and we do! I hope you join me in selecting one title for our end of summer beach read.

Thriller Fiction:

Horror Fiction:

Little Eyes TADL Catalog (this title is also classified as literary fiction, but I didn’t want to surprise you by putting it in that category with a side note of it also being horror. You’re welcome!) (Another sidenote: the author of this title has reminded me that yes, in the history of my reading life I have read a translation. Her book, Fever Dream is just as surreal as it sounds and highly recommended.)

Science Fiction:

The Memory Police TADL Catalog

Historical Nonfiction:

Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets TADL Catalog

another 3 books from the list on a back ground of white wood

Thanks to the Book Riot and their newsletters we get about books coming out, I was able to find these titles in the library catalog and library resources and section them by genre to help you find your next great read. Or if you’re more the reads (plural) type, here is a neat bingo sheet from Women in Translation to jazz it up.

Enjoy!
