This July, in honor of the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Traverse Area District Library (TADL), the Disability Network of Northern Michigan, and the Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council are partnering to host a pop-up ADA Pride Display to educate the public and celebrate the disability rights movement.
“The Americans with Disabilities Act was a monumental step forward, but the work of building a truly inclusive society continues every day," said Melissa McKenna, TADL's Assistant Director of Outreach and Adult Services. "This event is about honoring that legacy, uplifting the voices of disability advocates, and ensuring every member of our community feels seen, valued, and supported." Anyone requiring assistance during their library visit can find more information at tadl.org/assistance.

The community can find a slate of events over the coming weeks, to help connect the Grand Traverse community with activities, educational resources, and support. The events are free and open to all:
July 26 - September 26, 2025: Display on Exhibit (Woodmere)
July 26, 2025 - ADA Birthday Celebration, 10 am (Woodmere)
August 13, 2025
Open Spot All-Abilities Theatre Class for Kids & Teens, 5 pm (Woodmere)
Open Spot All-Abilities Theatre Class for Older Teens & Adults, 6:30 pm (Woodmere)
The display features powerful photographs, educational materials, and storytelling elements highlighting the history of the ADA and the advocates who made it possible.
This event is part of a statewide initiative to spotlight access, inclusion, and disability pride across Michigan through community-based activations during Disability Pride Month. Partner links:
