Yesterday marked the official shift of seasons from Summer to Fall-- which we for one couldn't be happier about! Autumn is our personal favorite time of the year in teen services. Here's why!
Pumpkin spice lattes, comfy sweaters, crisp breezes, gorgeous colors as the leaves shift into warm reds and yellows... what more could you want?
From apple picking to corn mazes to hayrides to long walks in the woods, Fall is the perfect time of year to get out and about-- it's cool enough that it's not overwhelming, but warm enough that you won't freeze your fingers off while outside. And don't even get us started on Halloween!
There's one other reason we love Fall in the library. This Fall we have four new monthly programs that we're excited to share with you! Read on to discover your favorite new program you won't want to miss!
Career Chats: Starts October 28th, meets the last Tuesday of every month.
As it gets to be closer to college for many students, we know that a lot of teens probably have questions about what day to day life is like for the cool careers we hear so much about. That's why we created this program! Each month we'll invite a local professional in to talk about their career and discuss their experience and tips of the trade for interested teens. From fashion designers to local business owners, every month will highlight a different career so keep an eye out for your favorites!
Registration is required for this program, so sign up online at tadl.org/events to reserve your seat!
Craft and Chill: Starts October 14th, meets the second Tuesday of every month.
Feeling crafty? Then join us for our new Craft and Chill program and craft to your heart's content! Pick one of our featured crafts to try, then stay for snacks once you're done. Craft types will vary each month from beadwork to paper crafts to painting and so much more, so there's always something for everyone!
Our October crafts will be Halloween-themed, so get ready for spooky fun!
Flashback Crafts: Starts September 29th, meets the last Monday of every month.
We also mentioned this program in our last blog post, but we want to let teens know how it compares to our Craft and Chill program. Flashback Crafts focuses on the best retro crafts we can find, making the oldies but goodies that your parents might have made as teenagers. Good crafts never go out of style, so show up if you want to embrace the retro crafter in you!
Each program will have different crafts, so teens are welcome to show up to both.
Teen Book Club: Starts October 21st, meets the third Tuesday of every month.
Our new book club puts a unique twist on idea of a book club. How so? It's simple! We pick the genre, you pick the book to read-- that's right, any book! After discussions, teens are welcome to recommend their book to other participants and embrace the best elements of the selected genre. We invite teens to help us pick the upcoming genres at our first meeting, so stop by and let us know what you want to see featured!
Our first genre will be mystery, so put on your detective hats and sleuth out a good YA mystery to read!
But wait, that's not all! Our Teen Chess Club, Twisted Quills Writing Group, and D&D programs are all back by popular demand, so register now for a spot at tadl.org/events! No matter which program you choose, we'll see you soon!
