(TRAVERSE CITY) - Join us for a slate of exciting food-centric events this March!

Manoomin: Native Grain of Michigan - March 13 at 6 pm (McGuire Community Room)

In December Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed House Bill 4852, establishing manoomin (Michigan wild rice) as the official native grain of Michigan. Culturally significant to Michigan’s indigenous peoples, manoomin once grew freely along the state’s waterways. It is also ecologically significant in the northern Midwest. Today many of the tribal nations are working to get it re-established.

Join us and learn more from our two special guests for this program: Barbara Barton, author of Manoomin: The Story of Wild Rice in Michigan (available in our collection) and Tera John, Grand Traverse Band Traditional Agriculture/Food Sovereignty Coordinator - Focus of Indigenous Land Management Techniques across Turtle Island. For more details, or to add this event to your calendar visit tadl.org/manoomin
