It’s a September to remember at the library!

(TRAVERSE CITY) - September is Library Card Signup Month, one of our favorite holidays of the year. We’ll be unveiling a new library card later this month to celebrate, let’s see if we can beat August’s number of 284 new cardholders! Additional major events include:

Paws at the Library Day - Sat. Sept. 16

Join us for a pawsome day of pet-themed fun! This new event is a partnership with the Cherryland Humane Society. We'll have a drop box (available 9/11-9/17) to collect CHS wishlist items, a family storytime at 11 am, "potential pet" visits noon to 2 pm, a How to Pick a Pet program at 2 pm and a popular animated family movie (about pets!) at 4 pm.

If you are in a position to offer a home to a furr-ever friend - Paws at the Library! We'll have lots of posters featuring shelter animals waiting for a home.

Chili Cook-Off Call for Chefs!

Our Call for (Chili) Chefs is open right now, reserve your space now to be a part of this fun library community favorite. We’ll be on the Main Library front lawn this year Sun. Oct. 22. If you would like to enter your chili in the competition just visit tadl.org/chili to sign up.

Youth

Storytimes will be returning the week of Sept. 11 with new start times, please check tadl.org/events. New - 3rd-5th grade book club! Join us on 9/26 at 4 pm for the first meeting. We'll be discussing Enemies in the Orchard (books available at the Main Library starting 9/13 - one per family please). Save the date for a visit with the author Oct. 7!

Adults

NEW! Great Decisions Series, Wednesdays at 1 pm, starting 9/20 (Thirlby Room)

This eight-session series is America's largest discussion program on world affairs and is organized by the Foreign Policy Association. The program model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book, watching the video series and meeting in a discussion group to discuss the most critical global issues facing America today. New book club! Shelf Aware Readers - This group will focus on mental and physical wellness titles. The first book will be What Happened to You? Start reading now in preparation for the first club meeting Oct. 12. Ask at the Reference Desk if you need help finding a copy.

New Grant & Classes!

TADL is proud to be among the 215 libraries selected by @ALA_PLA for the Digital Literacy Workshop Incentive, supported by AT&T. We are so excited to empower our community with basic computer skills and digital literacy! This grant has made the following classes possible: Digital Literacy Classes

Join us and brush up on your skills with some of today's common technology. Classes include intro to computers, internet/email basics, and cybersecurity. Classes begin Sept. 14, 10 am.

East Bay Branch Library

  • Ice Cream Social! Sat. Sept. 9, join us from 1 to 3 pm to get the scoop on fall at the library. 
  • Fri. 9/15, Noon - Yoga Therapy Have you ever heard of yoga therapy?  Do you know how it differs from yoga?  Would you like to find out?  Come join us with Certified Yoga Therapist Janet Weaver at the East Bay Branch on Fri. Sept. 15 at noon.  (No special clothing or equipment is needed.)

Kingsley Branch Library

  • Starting Sept. 12 - It's Wigglers Storytime Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 am! (Don't miss Sept. 26th and 27th,  we're doing an extra-special 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Kick-off!)
  • Naturally Fun, Wednesdays from 3:00-5:00 p.m Meet your favorite librarians outside in the Children's Garden for Outdoor Enrichment during the Kingsley Farmers Market! This drop-in activity will include crafts, stories, and more.  
  • Got Lego, September 28th 3:30-5:00 p.m.  Bring your own LEGO® or use ours, but come  and spend time building LEGO® creations with your friends at the Kingsley Branch Library in our Community Room!
