Grant to turn raindrops to rhythms!

(TRAVERSE CITY) - The Traverse Area District Library (TADL) is proud to announce a new seed grant from Rotary Charities of Traverse City for a new musical stormwater system. This project is a library partnership with the Grand Traverse Area Children’s Garden, and the new design will showcase an innovative and artistic approach to stormwater capture and treatment.

Library Director Michele P. Howard credits the $10,000 grant from Rotary Charities for helping get the project off the ground. “This grant will help us develop plans to build an innovative musical stormwater rain garden that combines environmental sustainability with community art.” Designed to capture and filter rainwater while reducing runoff, the garden will also feature interactive musical elements, inviting visitors to experience the sounds of water, wind, and nature in harmony.

Project partners on board to design the new system include Keen Technical, the TC Philharmonic, The musical advantage (Anna Norris neurological music therapist), Aurora at Borealis Designs (Dean Connors), and Joanne Cook among others. The new garden will come to life at the southwest corner of the Woodmere library. Howard notes that the project is in the very early stages, and the team looks forward to sharing more details as plans develop.
