Program Description

Event Details

The goal of the Traverse Area Historical Society is to share local history of Traverse City and the Grand Traverse region.

This month's speaker is:  Robert Downes

Writer Robert Downes will speak on “Unfair Treaties & Broken Promises” about the Indians’ struggle to retain their homelands in the face of white settlement. The talk will be based on his forthcoming book, “Raw Deal: The Indians of the Great Lakes and the Theft of Native Lands,” which will be published on January 1.

This will be his eighth book, following up his novels of the Ojibwe, “The Wolf and The Willow” and “Windigo Moon,” which are grounded in deeply-researched history and anthropology.
