The goal of the Traverse Area Historical Society is to share local history of Traverse City and the Grand Traverse region.

This month's presentation is:

Julius Steinberg, the Bargain Giver: From Peddler to Opera House Proprietor and Beyond by Zoë Schwartz, Historian & Library Assistant at Traverse Area District Library Local History Collection

From peddler to Traverse City local and business leader, Judel Szteynberg became Julius Steinberg, whose family, life, and times provides an exceptional window into the everyday life of a Jewish business person, father, and community member. Based on the Julius Steinberg Papers Collection in the TADL Local History Collection, this presentation investigates the Steinberg family and business over the course of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
